See the world through the eyes of Marc Chagall, born on this day in 1887. "Paris through the Window" (1913), currently on view in #GuggVisionaries, was painted after the artist moved to Paris from Russia in 1910. For Chagall, the Eiffel Tower appearing in the cityscape, served as a metaphor for Paris and perhaps modernity itself, and the parachutist might also refer to contemporary experience, since the first successful jump occurred in 1912. In Paris he began experimenting with Cubism, but developed a distinct style, often painting dream-like scenes rooted in personal history and folklore. #Guggenheim #MarcChagall
