At home, this morning - when the light reminded me of an old film photograph, and even with my phone I felt I was able to capture exactly what I saw, the way I saw it. Seeking imperfection more and more these days, when the demand is ever-increasing to style style style and everything is a must-have. I love that the things we got rid of first were mass-produced, that the things that remain have a purpose, that our "decor" is meaningful and true - a wind chime made by our daughter, a watercolor painting, a pen-and-ink that was the first gift to my wife, the feathers in the prayer bag from our dear Sunny. It's not idyllic to most, and it's certainly not perfect, and it's not going to be found in the pages of a glossy magazine - but it's real. Striving for that. Anything else is a waste of time, a waste of a life. I've spent too long, too much time, worried about masking the imperfect - and I just want to be. Here I am - a human, flawed. I keep my onions in the plastic netting and I don't know where to put the dishes yet so they don't ruin the counters when wet.
