This season — @mistyonpointe’s second year as a principal dancer with the #AmericanBalletTheater — is a killer that includes her debut as Kitri in “Don Quixote” on May 16, and her New York debut as Giselle on May 26. It’s symbolic, the @abtofficial’s artistic director says, because “she’s taking the mantle of the classics on.” Acting will be an integral part of getting her through it. Yes, she is @abtofficial’s first African-American female principal. But @mistyonpointe, has, perhaps more subtly, carved out another space for herself: as a ballerina with true acting chops. “You feel the age and the injuries, and you realize the importance of character,” she told @ニューヨーク・タイムズ in a recent interview. “I used to muscle through these things. I can’t do that anymore.
