In #Xinjiang, #China (Eastern Turkestan), the vast desert of Taklamakan, (whose name means “the sea of death”) has long been bordered by a few towns built around oases along the legendary Silk Road. Today, the #Uyghur shepherds, mounted on horseback, drive their flocks of sheep and camels by oil refineries.
