From the National Geographic Taiwan story on Mazu - The goddess of the sea, protector of sailors and fishermen, and most popular God in Taiwan - The 9th and final day of the Dajia Mazu Pilgrimage brings the soot covered palanquin of Mazu home to Dajia Jenn Lann (Mazu) Temple in Taichung, where it all began. Fireworks are the cause of the black, sooty mess. The yellow shirted fireworks crew clear the final path to the temple. This is one of the world's biggest religious celebrations, the pilgrimage lasts for 9 days as Mazu is transported around southern Taiwan to more than 100 temples. #Taichung #Taiwan #temple #Mazu @natgeo.media @ナショナルジオグラフィック @natgeocreative @National Geographic Travel @thephotosociety
