Soldiers of the 2nd infantry division apply camouflage makeup before patrolling inside the DMZ, the Demilitarized Zone, the 148 mile long, 2.5 mile wide stretch of no man's land that separates North and South Korea. Their motto, "Second to None" says it all - they are the first line of defense who would face an invasion from the north. From my Natgeo story, Korea's Dangerous Divide published on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Korean war. This weeks escalating tensions caused by the North's rocket test will be keeping the troops on highest alert.
