Bill Cunningham — the legendary @nytimesfashion photographer who chronicled style on the streets of New York City — loved to photograph the #FifthAvenue Easter Parade. “What a joyous occasion!” he said last year, calling the longtime NYC tradition “a carnival celebration of spring.” Bill died last June at the age of 87, 2 months after the 2016 parade. This year, we’re sharing unpublished photos he took at parades from 2011 to 2016. He started photographing the annual event much earlier, back in the 1950s, and he returned every year to capture the humor and imaginativeness of its attendees. Most of his photos show smiles; in this case, however, his subject appears to be less than enthused.
