Why do I train? I train for both my physical and mental health. I train for myself and for my inner peace. I train for the early morning starts with good friends and the shared experience of movement, challenge and accomplishment. Sport and exercise has always been such a large part of my life and I want to share the benefits of physical activity with you all. I have spent the past week with an incredible group of people at the @activeescapes retreat relaxing and unwinding but also improving my mental and physical health. We’ve faced challenges and pushed personal barriers. One of the most memorable sessions was the day we trained in the pouring rain... because sometimes self care is just getting shit done regardless of circumstances. Growing up I remember constantly being labelled as “sporty” and “athletic” and boys in my grade referring to my strength as “man power.” I remember resenting my athletic background and wanting to be considered delicate and feminine… but here’s the thing, I grew up and I know better now. Strength isn’t gender specific. Girls, please don’t be afraid to be strong, don’t be afraid to be labelled as “athletic” and most importantly don't be afraid to be different. We’re all unique and when our individuality is supported by other strong and independent people, like those I have had the pleasure to train with over the past week, we become unstoppable. You’ve got everything it takes but it will take everything you’ve got. Don’t be afraid to be strong.
