Kamagasaki series #05: Abe, Japanese Prime Minister, is used to reinforce the window. Kamagasaki is the biggest slum in Japan. 20,000 to 30, 000 manual workers, many of them homeless people, live within less than 1 km². Such workers were demanded in the 1960s to 1980s to make Japan’s economy grow further. But due to the long economic recession for more than two decades and their aging, most of them cannot find their day-jobs now and live in very harsh, often unhealthy conditions. Many of them live alone, even if their relatives still exist. Their ordeals have been continuously neglected by the authorities. The best solution that both the government of Japan and Osaka municipality think is seemingly just to wait for their death. Shot in Dec, 2017. #retiree #manualworker #kamagasaki #osaka
