Photograph by @jodymacdonaldphoto // The South Branch Trimble Glacier is one of the many glaciers in Alaska’s Tordrillo Mountains, from which meltwater feeds the isolated Strandline Lake. Glacial meltwater is created by glaciers that have receded over time, often forming lakes. The brilliantly blue lakes get their color from "rock flour," or sediment that has been transported through the rivers. This sediment comes from rocks grinding together underneath the glacier. The fine powder is then suspended in the water, absorbing and scattering varying colors that create a milky turquoise appearance.
