This was my 7th trip to Alaska but my first time getting out of Anchorage, up to Fairbanks and into the countryside. Everywhere you go in this state is an adventure for the senses. Dense forest, endless snow blanketed mountain ranges carved by the power and fragility of glaciers on the brink, rushing rivers as wide as anywhere in the world that are traditional canoe highways in the summer and snow shoe footpaths while iced over in winter. Cold so unyielding that it transforms this land into a planet with a completely new set of natural laws, followed by unimaginable heat, where fruits and vegetables grow twice as fast because of the perpetual sunlight and non stop snow melt over the short months of summer. Although depleted, wildlife still abounds, I've seen Moose in the parking lot after our shows on more than one occasion (I'd like to think they came for the music) and I saw a wolverine last year while glacier exploring. It is a land of Earth and Water Keepers committed to protecting it for generations to come and also a land of mines and pipelines. It's easy to see why people here value their independence, because just like the stars, far away from the city, your authentic self has space to shine so much brighter. If it sounds like I want you to come here, it's because I do. I want as many people as possible to experience her beauty and see that Alaska is the litmus test of our planet's health. As goes the health of our 49th state, so goes the health of the rest of the planet. When glaciers are lost here, when the deep layers of perma-frost melt and become sink holes, when historic Native Alaskan villages are eroded into the water, we know that these are the vital signs for our entire planet body. The good news is that there are billions of people on the planet who's eyes are blinking, opening, witnessing and sharing what they see and that is a very powerful thing. For all these reasons I join with others who are saying #KeepAlaskaCold . The whole world needs it to stay that way! #Alaska #gratitude #optimism #music #consciousness #planet #health #waterprotectors #earthkeepers #Fairbanks #Anchorage #chenahotsprings ?Odin_Peter
