These times have brought out the worst in a few people, but they will bring out the very best in all the rest. I see fear, hatred, scapegoating the most vulnerable, banning media, banning travel, branding campaigns against truth, bullying, like I have never witnessed in my life time. I remember when our leaders at least tried to show respect for each other and the people who entrusted them with power. They did not openly show our children all day, everyday, that the way to get what you wanted was to demonize, belittle and ridicule or persecute others. We are a nation that has been built by the creativity and hands of diversity and the ideals that we welcome those in greatest need to have the opportunities to pursue happiness. "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to be free", words from the poet Emma Lazarus emblazoned on the Statue of Liberty still mean something to me. That our country at it's best is a nation of compassionate people who are willing to reach out to others when they are hurting the most, who will go the extra step or extra mile to reach out to those who may differ in opinion, appearance, gender, sexuality or faith. We are a nation of hard working people who are willing to collaborate to come up with solutions that serve the greater good. Have our leaders and we as a nation lived up to these ideals? Certainly not all the time. In fact some may argue, rarely. But have we got it right enough of the time to at least be a nation where many people can find peace and prosperity and where there is a system in place where through free speech and dedication we can fight for those who have yet to share in the freedoms so many of us take for granted? Today all of us are being called to take our citizenry game to new levels. To stand up, to speak out and perhaps most importantly to reach out to those we may disagree with, to listen to be heard and to not give in to darkness, but to be the light we want to see in the world today. Choose now to be your best! #LoveOutLoud #LeadWithLove #Resist #beyourbest #soulrocker
