For the non-skiers out there, this type of ultra-fluffy, light snow called “powder” is more air than snow crystals, and you don’t ski on top of it, you float through it, sort of surfing on your skis. The sensation is hard to describe, but is more akin to flying than regular skiing because you can’t feel the bottom of the snow. Once you’ve experienced it, it is known to lead to obsessive behavior… constant checking of weather forecasts, long drives in storms, large amounts of money expended on travel and equipment, careers put on hold, etc etc…..
