Happy Sunday! By now you probably know that every Sunday I donate my social media to my @YearsofLiving team to talk about carbon pricing! Please take a second to read this post! It's five minutes out of your Sunday :)! "My name is Sarah Fadem, and I am a Jewish American. My great grandparents came to the US from Poland in the 20s, before Jewish immigration was suffocated during the Holocaust. My people are a people of refugees; we have been for thousands of years. I stand in solidarity with the people of Somalia, Libya, Yemen, Iran, Iraq, Sudan and Syria who were recently and temporarily unlawfully banned from entering our country. Within the week that the executive order was signed, I attended 3 immigration and refugee rallies and vigils in my state, Vermont. This picture is of the statehouse in Montpelier, and the hundreds of Vermonters who came out to hear the speeches from the ACLU, Rights and Democracy along immigrants and refugees. In the coming months, we must keep standing with our marginalized siblings, and recognize the intersections between all of our struggles. Researchers estimate that 50-200 million people will be displaced by climate change by 2050. This is why I am working to #PutAPriceOnIt. Climate Change is here. With this bitter reality, I will fight for social, economic and climate justice through implementing a price on carbon pollution. A price on carbon will make wind, hydro, solar, and other green technologies more financially competitive. Energy independence through renewables will effectively lower taxes, as it is already doing in many areas of the world, and will provide permanent jobs in the renewables sector. It will be THE answer to the problem of adapting to climate change with equitable policy, and mitigating the exponential effects on climate that inaction will have. The youth of Vermont have loud and clear voices. Different groups, like the Youth Lobby's Rally for the Planet, Vermont Student Power Network, Vermont Public Interest Research Group and #PutAPriceOnIt are all working to mitigate climate change and fight for justice for the people who are displaced by it. Together we are strong."
