Yesterday, Iraq opened the next chapter in its offensive to drive ISIS out of #Mosul. The group has held the city as its de facto Iraqi capital for more than 2 years. Retaking the entire city, in what is expected to be a monthslong campaign, would be a huge victory for Iraqi troops. But first, they have to move between the small villages outside Mosul, which is Iraq's second-largest city, to fully surround it. The offensive will likely last for many months. Earlier today, the @ニューヨーク・タイムズ video journalist @bcsolomon photographed this Iraqi soldier showing off a knife he found in a recently-liberated town just outside of Mosul.
