Today reminded me that sometimes a step outside of the ordinary is still a step in the right direction. We can get so caught up in what we think we ought to be doing or the standards that we think we need to conform to, that in the process, we lose the ability to keep ourselves present in the now. Today, I left my routine behind and stepped outside myself. Breaking habit gives us new perspective and forces us to be in the moment since we are experiencing something new. That feeling of being present and absorbing everything I was sensing, reminded me of how alive I feel when I'm present. And that made me want to create. Needless to say, I decided that I was coming back to the present in my life- starting in THIS present moment. - Am I the only one who feels that a strong sense of conviction in what they want to do should make it a liiiiitle bit easier to achieve it? It is way harder than I thought it would be and I know that it's going to be a journey on which I'm going to have to work on myself. One where I'm going to have to flat out discipline myself. Every time I feel that tightening in my chest as my mind creeps forward towards the future, I'm going to bring myself back. Seeing what's in front of me. Not just to the present day but to the present moment. What my hands are doing. What my eyes are looking at. Examining the detail of the plate or the curve of the knife as I put it away. Being mindful of how I'm closing the cabinet on my way back to the dishwasher. You see, I always assumed when people said, "bring yourself into the present" that that meant today. I mean, if yesterday was the past and tomorrow is the future, then technically, today is the present, right? But what I recently learned, is that anxiety about the future encompasses anything ahead of this very moment. Today what I learned, is that anxiety robs you of a present- and I'm not getting stolen from any longer. Sending out gratitude for my gifts from the Sea ?
