Alex R. Hibbert plays Chiron in the Oscar-nominated film @moonlightmov, a coming-of-age story about growing up in a drug-plagued area of Miami. Critics and moviegoers have been taken by his performance, most of it delivered without any words. In January, Alex, who’s 12, met with the @ニューヨーク・タイムズ reporter @joannanikasnyc and the photographer @jokemichaels at a @skyzone trampoline park in LA. When he wasn’t diving into a foam pit or this cherry Icee, Alex talked about his dreams: curing cancer, doing action movies like Andrew Garfield and getting cast on a popular TV series. “I want to be on ‘The Walking Dead,’” he said. “I need to talk to my managers about that.” Most of the time, Alex goes to a performing arts middle school in Miami. When his drama teacher suggested he audition for the film last March, he assumed it was a school production. “I didn’t know it was going to be that big,” he said. “I thought it was going to be like a play or something.”
