A cat played on a farm near Saulx-les-Chartreux, outside Paris. In France, more younger people are choosing to make lives as small-scale farmers. Some are drawn by idealistic notions of tilling the land, others the simple desire to get away from the rat race of the cities. In either case, they often leave behind well-paid jobs, as well as relatively comfortable lives that they find unfulfilling. A thriving market for organic food has powered this small-scale farming drive, but first-time farmers are not without challenges. Before new entrants can set up shop, they must overcome a range of obstacles, and the first test — finding land — might be the hardest. @kostyukov photographed this farm #? while on #nytassignment in France.
