President Obama will end a longstanding immigration policy, “wet foot, dry foot,” that allows Cubans who make it to the U.S. without visas to stay and become legal residents. Earlier this year, Havana-based photographer @lisettepoole followed two women who migrated from Cuba to America, via an obscure byway in this wave of migration. The journey took about a month and a half and snaked through nearly a dozen countries between South and Central America. They waded through rivers and checkpoints, walked for days through the jungle and encountered others from as far away as Haiti and Bangladesh. In this photograph on July 2, one of the women, Liset, walks along the bridge over the Rio Grande to present herself to U.S. officials and seek asylum.
