I remind myself I'm not in a race, it will happen when it's ready. Some photos simply just take time... 5-6 years for example. Maybe it just wasn't ready to reveal itself, or maybe I was unprepared. The truth is I have been here before ... many times in fact & never seen this. It is a moment that lasts only days.. maybe minutes. When the river bed dries up and the cold dry snow blows in off the Glacier. Too much snow & it's gone. It's unlike anything I have seen before, a truly fleeting moment. My last flight over Iceland took me from the Rivermouth of the Thórsja river all the way to the Glacier. Across 100's of miles of pristine wilderness & some not so pristine. Where dams redirect the flow of water & force its wild shape to move in straight lines. I've spent half a decade letting this project consume me. No assignment, no client or even any goal in mind.. just a purely personal project that has given me a lot of peace while at the same time giving these rivers a voice. Their message is simple. We are all connected.

To support these rivers becoming protected from development- support Halendid.is - an effort to create a national park in this region. I'm currently working on a book about these rivers and will discuss more on the subject.
