Happy birthday to #ClaudeMonet, born on this day in 1840! Captivated by the unique light in Venice, Monet produced three dozen paintings featuring areas of the Venetian cityscape. He began each day painting views such as this one showing the airy facade of Palazzo Ducale from the islet of San Giorgio Maggiore. Of the three dozen paintings, twenty-nine were exhibited for the first time as a group of series in Paris in the spring of 1912. #Guggenheim #Monet
