On a recent National Geographic/Lindblad Expedition, “Epic 80” which started in Iceland (then flew to Greenland, and met the NG Explorer, sailing up the west coast then over to Baffin and other incredible spots.) Late in the trip, we stopped in Greenland at Qilakitsoq, also known as the ‘mummy site.’ Qilakitsoq is a very small bay cut into the side of a fjord A former Inuit settlement, now graveyard to mummies of Thule people who were buried in rock piles in the 15th century. Here Lindblad naturalist/biologist Ian Bullock describes the history of this place to a group of travelers.
