Photograph by @paulnicklen // Grizzly bears hate putting their ears underwater. It is a tense time for a bear to be on a salmon stream with dozens of other bears roaming the same area after the same food source. Bears are normally solitary creatures but rivers and streams bring these nomads to within close proximity to one another. Their best senses are their noses and hearing. Eyesight is a distant third. While they have their nose and eyes underwater, they often leave their ears above water so that they can maintain a listening watch while looking at the river bottom. This gorgeous bear did exactly that. She came up and did a quick assessment of her surroundings after a brief plunge. Spending time in nature with bears is about as good as it gets. #followme on @paulnicklen to see more of my favorite encounters with top predators. #gratitude #nature #instagood #bear #wet #swimming #naturelovers #eyes #beauty
