Yanjiao, China was once seen as a “sleeper city,” whose 300,000 residents mostly commuted an hour each way to their jobs in Beijing. During the day, Yanjiao's wide, dusty streets are nearly empty, flanked by apartment buildings waiting for tenants to return from work. But in recent years, this small and decidedly nondescript city has been experiencing an influx of young Chinese artists. Driven away from Beijing by high rents and the constant threat of demolition, many artists who might previously have hunkered down in China’s unofficial cultural capital are flocking to #Yanjiao as a low-cost spot from which to chase their dreams. And as word of mouth spread, more artists started heading there. @xaumeolleros photographed a student walking through the satellite campus of the Central Academy of Fine #Arts in Yanjiao, China.
