Ashley Qin from Arcaide, California, is one of the finalists in Marvel’s Doctor Strange – The Magic of STEM Challenge, which asked participants to choose a scientific question or mystery that intrigued them, investigate it with a mentor, and explain it in a vlog style video. Ashley combined her interest in computer programming with her love of biology to research and describe how wearable biosensors could function as non-invasive glucose monitors, which in turn could allow diabetic patients to easily and inconspicuously monitor their glucose levels.

Ashley explained, “I did a computer science course at my school, and I thought programming was really cool, and then I looked more into applying programming to biology, because I was already into biology. So, I read a lot of articles about biosensors and I saw one that an MIT Ph.D. student made, which was a biosensor that could interface with your phone, which I thought was really cool. So I looked more into more biology rather that just technology.” Learn more about these young women and their STEM discoveries throughout the week, and congratulations to all the finalists!#DolbyCares #DolbySTEM
