Navya Annapareddy from Haymarket, Virginia, is one of the finalists in Marvel’s Doctor Strange – The Magic of STEM Challenge, which asked participants to choose a scientific question or mystery that intrigued them, investigate it with a mentor, and explain it in a vlog style video. Navya looked into advanced prosthetics, a field she became interested in based work she’s been doing for a long time involving robotics and providing prosthetics to people in need.
Navya explained, “I’m involved with a group that 3D prints free prosthetics for children and adults who can’t afford them. Prothestics are very magical, especially upper limb ones, because there’s such a need for them, and they can be developed with materials that don’t need advanced electrical materials and stuff like that. I explored the type of upper limb prosthetics I’m least familiar with - the myoelectric arms, the thought controlled prosthetics - and I think they’re really interesting because they’re far more advanced than the non-electric ones, and they are the future of prosthetics.
