Photo @pedromcbride // Sahara haze. As the sun set on the desert horizon, Cairo unfolded into rippling layers of gray in front of me. Years ago I shot a story for @ナショナルジオグラフィック re-enacting the first African air passage. It took us 58 days to fly an open-cockpit plane the length of the African Continent (it only flew 65 mph). Looking out at the massive city (pop. 6.7 million, with another 10 million living nearby), I felt a deep respect for the River Nile, and the life it continues to foster here. The snap of time, the ancient and the new woven together. As I prepare to return to another desert and the water challenges there, I can't help but think back on this adventure. #chasingrivers #waterislife #respectforrivers #egypt #gratitude #tbt
