Last up in @hikariyoko’s @friezeartfair takeover is Edith Dekyndt’s ‘Graphite 09’... “Some works are not about the subject matter, but rather a relationship of the artist to the material. Edith Dekyndt takes a graphite pencil and draws on cotton canvas over and over, until the surface of the material breaks down creating an undulating texture like drapery. She sits calmly by herself, engaged in this repetitive act, almost like a meditation. The final result is a document of time passing, the action of pushing pigment to surface. In this case the artist is not imaginative, not a storyteller, not a fantasy weaver but simply a humble worker devoted to her process.” Image courtesy of @carlfreedmangallery.
