First up, Hikari selects Lucy Dodd’s Storms R Born N Eagles Land. "Lucy's materials each have their own properties and respond to the canvas in different ways. In her gesture, she brings out aspects of their elemental nature - some cling chalky, stainy, powdery but composed together they transcend their individual identities and become evidence of physical forces at play. The paintings are always utilised in her exhibitions as structures for things to happen within them - she doesn't just hang them on the wall, but rather installs them as little houses or leans them around the room. Within the canvased paintings performances, music, sage burning ceremonies take place - she's reaching for a different idea of what painting can be, a home for something alchemical and ephemeral to happen. "
