The following day we descended the slot canyon in the background, one of the scariest experiences I have ever survived in the mountains. I felt trapped in a bowling alley for loose rocks like the ones in the foreground, which even wind gusts sometimes rattled free. A rainstorm would have instantly drowned us and we had no idea if the canyon - sometimes barely wide enough for a body width - might squeeze too tight for us to fit through. To the credit of my companions, however, we made it all of the way all the way to the other side, emerging into a little town and oasis. #landscape #geology #climbing #taklimakan #xinjiang #adventure
