Are we loving it to death?
For the price of an illegal campfire, 107,375 acres of pristine wilderness have been destroyed in Big Sur. The Soberanes fire has burned for 57 days & continues to destroy homes & structures. Like anyone who has built a lifetime of memories in this beautiful place I have to ask what role did I play in this & more importantly what can I do better.
.

Maybe you have asked yourselves the same question. Have I depicted it in a way that promotes an illusion that wilderness isn’t fragile?.. or that it shouldn’t be cared for as if its your own. Is the answer to not share it with others? Sometimes I think we love these places to death… We are so consumed with “sharing” the experience with others digitally that we might be missing the opportunity to leave it better than we found for others in person.
.

I'll be the first to admit that there have been times in my career I haven't considered the affect a photo can have on a place. I don't really have the right answer but I know that if we destroy wilderness for the price of a campfire or a photo its not worth it. Don't point the finger unless you are willing to point it at yourself first.
.

We can do better
