More details of the Mr. Pearl “Canary” gown: the tiny hand curled ombré ostrich feathers at the bottom and on the train of the dress came from the famed Madame Fèvrier atelier. Pearl and I would visit her often to peruse the antique feathers. This is the same place Josephine Baker, Mistinguette and the great courtesans got their feathers, and original images of those stars were still on the walls. We always particularly admired one photograph of Josephine with a headress of gorgeous white bird of paradise feathers, and that image inspired the tiara Mr. Pearl designed for this costume, not shown here. To match the gown, Madame Fèvrier also made a pair of feather fans. As feather supplier to the Paris Haute Couturiers, they get the first pick of the fluffiest ostrich plumes from farms all over the world. It took several years for them to collect the best quality, lushest plumes for my feather fans, which were created in the same ombré effect as the train with three shades of buttercream yellow and they were then curled by hand. They're absolutely beautiful, like no other ostrich feathers I've ever seen. I even took them to another feather supplier at one point to see if he could obtain some plumes like that and he said these were the Holy Grail of Feathers, impossible to get. Also shown here is the crystal zipper pull I had Mr. Pearl add to the gown.
