Jon Cardwell just got the FA of Fat Camp (5.14d maybe 5.15a), a line I bolted and cleaned in Rifle. People have been looking at this section of the Wicked Cave for 30 years, doubting that anything could ever be climbed here. Nobody ever thought a route could be excavated from this utter choss. Not even me. But I spent 10 days over 4 years working on this route. I cleaned holds, cleaned choss, and found an incredible natural sequence. Even I was surprised. Due to life circumstances and other projects, I never got a chance to invest in climbing this route, so I opened it up to the community.

Getting the FA would’ve been nice, but I’m even happier that my homie Jon was able to be first to do this route. Jon’s climbing really, really well right now, and I love seeing my friends thrive.
It gives me a lot of satisfaction to hear that he enjoyed something I worked so hard to create. I can’t wait to see who else gets psyched on this rig and I can't wait try it next month!!!' Whoop!!!
