Why does it feel like the good stewards of climbing seem just like small groups of dedicated locals or regional climbing organizations that have pride in the their favorite climbing areas?
It’s disappointing to me that I rarely see professional climbers exercise, exemplify and encourage good stewardship in climbing videos and social media. Whuddup with this? Is it not cool or does it look weak?
The trends of what's expected aren't anything to shy away from. I've learned by partaking in the ROCK Project and conversations with climbers from all over that pro climbers have a major influence in our social norms and etiquette.
If you have influence, don't hold back speaking about how you love your cliffs and boulders. There's no shame in showing how you respect and take care of your areas. As well, if you see someone operating in a negative way at the crag, take a moment, have a constructive conversation, explain why their actions are not cool. More than likely they just don’t know any better. It’s a simple conversation, climber to climber.
