It’s been proposed that negatively ionized air produced by waterfalls promotes alpha brain waves, increases brain wave amplitude, and releases serotonin and other chemicals that creates an overall clear and calming effect. These neurological effects are thought to produce the euphoric feelings and sense of well-being we feel at waterfalls, white water rivers, and pounding surf.
