Some became grazing animals on shore, perhaps eating moss and lichens, while also scavenging for bird eggs. Here two polar bears appear as mountain goats on a steep hillside on #Barentsoya. The pack ice is important for polar bears as a platform for hunting seals, their main food source. When the ice disappears they become stranded on shore.
