Previously best known for his role in the “Harold and Kumar” movies, John Cho has lmore recently been the face of many popular movie posters, thanks to a social media campaign started without his knowledge that imagines him as Captain America, James Bond and other well-known characters. “My first reaction was, are they clowning me?” John told @ニューヨーク・タイムズ. But the 44-year-old actor quickly realized the #StarringJohnCho campaign was sincere and meant to draw attention to a lack of diversity onscreen. “Movies may be as close to a document of our national culture as there is,” John said. “So when you don’t see yourself at all — or see yourself erased — that hurts.” John will be continuing his role as Sulu in “Star Trek Beyond” (@startrekmovie), the third film in the reimagined #StarTrek universe, which comes to theaters Friday. @eliz took this portrait of #JohnCho while on #nytassignment in Beverly Hills, California.
