In July 1938, after Robert Capa had returned to Paris, his partner Gerda Taro stayed in Madrid. Shortly after, she would lose her life at the Battle of Brunete.
It is believed that Taro was the first female photojournalist to die in combat. Her documentation of the Spanish Civil War serves as a powerful reminder of the casualties of war, as she herself became one.
