Photographing Turkey's Hidden War. Photo 2 of 3.

The Kurds are an ethnic minority group spread throughout Turkey, Syria, Iraq and Iran, with hundreds of thousands more living in diaspora. Inside Turkey, the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party, known by the acronym PKK, has waged an insurgency against the central government on and off for decades. “A hidden war is going on right now in Turkey,” says photographer Emin Ozmen, who has photographed the strife this past year. “But without evidence, there is no war, that’s why it’s important for me to document it.” See more photos on TIME.com/LightBox.
