Photo by @andyparkinsonphoto/@thephotosociety A fox cub is transfixed by, of all things, a passing hot air balloon. When working with foxes I always work from a hide/blind as I never want the foxes to become too relaxed, or too comfortable with the presence of people. Whilst humans might not pose much of a threat in the cities of the UK there is still enough ignorance and mis-information peddled in rural areas to ensure that there is a long line of unfortunates that would do these environmentally essential icons of our countryside harm (counter arguments and opinions always welcomed but be warned…science, common sense and compassion are not on your side!). When working with these extremely intelligent and understandably wary creatures their natural inquisitiveness means that they frequently make eye contact with the strange camouflaged tent that’s making a clicking noise and thus a great many of the resulting images have the fox looking directly at the camera. This is not a problem in and of itself but the viewer is left less able to feel like an unnoticed observer, something that the disconnect in this image allows.
