We've lost the strongest and most beautifully loving person I've ever known as my Mom ... our best friend has passed away and I wanted to share some of her story. My Mom faced many struggles growing up including painful abuse from her father and other men. She said her father always made her feel like a, "Piece of shit" which is what probably played a big part in her getting into relationships with other men who treated her the same way. She told us she began using substances to try and numb herself to the emotional pain she dealt with from these relationships but that only made things worse. Things started to get really bad after my Mom lost two babies in a row one because the child was born premature and the other because the umbilical cord wrapped around the infants neck after a full term pregnancy. When it rains it pours as it was only a short time after that she became the caregiver for her Mom who was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. Things began spiraling towards her rock bottom after her Mom died of cancer and 15 minutes later her father went into cardiac arrest. I can still see the vision of my grandma laying there dead as my Mom pounded on my grandpa's chest performing CPR. My Mom losing both her parents 15 minutes apart was too much for my Mom to deal with and as she continued to seek escape from her painful reality it wasn't long before her substance abuse escalated to full bore heroin addiction. As I lived with my Mom for the next couple years she was on a very dark path and she surrounded herself with people on similar paths of self destruction ranging from prostitutes to bank robbers. I finally made the decision to move out when I was 14 after a slew of incidents including my Mom's new boyfriend showing up at our house with a gun shooting holes in all the walls. That situation eventually ended with him holding the gun to our heads ... the memory of getting on my hands and knees begging him not to shoot my Mom is still clear as day and thankfully her boyfriend found some sort of compassion as he lowered the gun and went home before shooting himself in the head. When I moved out it was because I thought with (continued in comments)
