2016 Paddle Award Winner @therealaarongold nearly drowned this morning while surfing giant Third Reef Cloudbreak. Eyewitnesses report he took off on a wave, ate it, got washed inside and was floating facedown in the water when the jetski swooped in to retrieve him. Aaron was lifeless and foaming at the mouth when they brought him back to the boat and administered extensive CPR. After many nervous minutes, he was revived and rushed back to Tavarua Island. Gold is there now being given oxygen, but still coughing up water and blood. He will be transferred to the mainland to see a doctor soon, but looks to be OK.
