Lunch on the James. The James River is running fast and muddy but the Great Blue Herons must feed their fledglings. The Spring fish run is still on and these magnificent birds are fishing from dawn till dusk......and sometimes at night. The Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias) was one of the many species originally described by Carl Linnaeus in his 18th-century work, Systema Naturae. Falls of the James, Richmond, Virginia.
