I was lying in 8 inches of water to create this intimate, and slightly intimidating perspective. The bear was an adult male grizzly and as I lay prostrate in the water he just kept coming closer and closer. In the end I had to turn my 200-400mm lens into portrait just to fit him all in but it remains one of my most memorable and cherished wildlife encounters. I love the intensity in his eyes and the simple fact that every second of the experience was such a tremendous privilege. I do however remain utterly horrified and bewildered that people would seek to do these magnificent creatures harm and the very fact that it remains legal in some countries to hunt these creatures is as despicable as it is mystifying.
