Along the Caspian ~ Paul Salopek gives his horse, Alex Moen, a rest after walking for 3 hours along the Caspian Sea during day one of the Out of Eden Walk in Kazakhstan.

Paul and I are working on part VI of the this epic journey for National Geographic magazine, retraces our ancestors footsteps that began in Africa some 60,000-70,000 years ago. Now into our third year of the walk, we will spend the next 3-4 weeks crossing through the deserts of the Mangystau region of Kazakstan till reaching the border with Uzbekistan later this month.
