From @jenpeedom: "I’m often asked what the original intention of the film was, before the 2014 avalanche happened. As well as following Phurba Tashi to the summit for his world record breaking 22nd summit, we also intended to follow a young Sherpani girl called Yangjee Doma Sherpa on her first attempt. This is Yangjee’s 96 year old blind grandmother, whose son (Yangjee’s father) died on Everest. She sits in this bed by the window, spinning her prayer wheel or praying mantras for much of the day. Yangjee and her sister care for her." Jennifer Peedom is an experienced climber, and has worked as a high altitude director on several expeditions including Discovery Channel’s six-part series EVEREST: BEYOND THE LIMIT. She has developed a strong friendship with Sherpa people over many years of working in the Himalayas since 2004, and these connections were key to the access granted in the making of #Sherpa. She's taking over our Instagram today in honor of the documentary, airing tomorrow at 9/8c as part of #ElevationWeekend on #Discovery!
