April 16-24 is #NationalParkWeek – celebrating America's best idea with free admission to every National Park. In recognition of this great event (created by @nationalparkservice and our conservation partners @goparks) we're highlighting a different National Park every day through April 24. Today we head north to Gates of the Arctic National Park in Alaska. @AlaskaNPS is the northernmost National Park, and at 8,472,506 acres it's the second-largest – slightly larger in area than the country of Belgium. With no roads or trails, this park features intact ecosystems where the indigenous people have lived for thousands of years, surrounded by wild rivers, migrating caribou herds and the light of a midnight sun. #FindYourPark #NPS100
