As we approach the end of the year, we’re looking back – way back – at the histories of some of our most iconic products. Because if you’re looking for a holiday gift that will stand the test of time, a good place to start is a gift that has a long history of its own.

The Chamois Shirt was introduced in 1927 as the “Leatherette Shirt” because of its likeness to high-grade chamois leather. Our founder tested this thick and soft shirt on his own hunting and fishing trips, where he encountered cold days, briars, foul weather and long hours – and stayed cozy through them all. The secret is the 7.5-ounce flannel; heavy enough for warmth and durability, but brushed on both sides for a soft and cozy feel. The Chamois Shirt is now available in more sizes, colors and styles, but it’s largely the same as the shirt L.L. tested in the '20s – and still well made to be well loved.
