During their journey through this vast territory, those travelers of yesteryear encountered all sorts of religions, beliefs, and tribes. The tribes had become settled in the area over the centuries and had learned to live together as part of a huge national entityDuring his constant, peaceful struggle for the independence of India, Mohandas Gandhi no doubt dreamed of maintaining all of the country’s borders as they were constituted at that time. Pakistan was created as an Islamic state after the partition of India. The borders drawn up by the departing British colonists, who were engaging in political gamesmanship, crushed any hope for a possible unity. And ever since then, recurring conflicts and perpetual animosity have set both countries against each other. After 60 years of existence, Pakistan has yet to find a unified national identity.
