Veiled Sevan ~ Moonrise over Lake #Sevan, #Armenia.

Had often heard tales about this lake from fellow photographer and dear friend, @anushbabajanyan. Two nights ago she drove me to this grand oasis where I finally sighted the fabled Lake Sevan, cradled by snow covered mountains, veiled in winter tree branches, embraced by a rising full moon.

Whenever witnessing a full moon, I often imagine ceremonies back on an island I once called home -- #Bali, #Indonesia. Every full moon, the temples of Bali would be filled with women, men and children in white ceremony attire, overflowing with flowered offerings, gamelan and prayers.

That night along the banks of Lake Sevan, its placid waters cloaked in the blue ink-like hues of evening, I mused on the sounds of Balinese temple bells and wafting incense, contemplating Anush's childhood summers spent on this large body of water, and how for many other Armenians, this lake surely might be just as sacred.
